Representatives from Richard Huish College, Taunton, attended an event hosted by Inner Wheel (Taunton and Taunton Vale) to support international efforts aimed at ending violence against women and girls.
Student Executive member Teagan Frith and Vice Principal for Student Experience Becky Flower represented the college at a supper held at Taunton Racecourse. The event brought together representatives from a range of local women’s organisations in support of the United Nations’ UNITE to End Violence Against Women and Girls and Orange the World campaigns.
Guests attended dressed in orange, a colour associated with hope and a future free from violence. Attendees heard from Joanne Wallace-Beecham, coordinator at Somerset Domestic Abuse Service, who spoke about the impact of domestic abuse and the importance of education, awareness and community support.
Becky Flower, Vice Principal for Student Experience at Richard Huish College, said: “We were grateful to Inner Wheel for the opportunity to attend such an important event. It was inspiring to hear from organisations and individuals working to raise awareness and support those affected by violence and abuse.
“Events like this encourage meaningful conversations and demonstrate the positive impact communities can have when they come together behind a shared cause.”
A spokesperson for Richard Huish College said events such as this helped students develop a greater understanding of social challenges while learning from organisations working to create positive change within their communities.
