The South West Heritage Trust is delighted to announce the acquisition of a much‑loved Morris Minor van belonging to the late Wilfred ‘Wilf’ Peddle — known across Glastonbury as the famous ‘Egg Man.’ The vehicle, which became a familiar sight on the town’s streets for decades, will go on display at Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury during the Easter school holidays.
Wilf Peddle, who passed away in June 2024 aged 74, was a true local legend. Born and raised in Glastonbury, he spent his entire life in the town, delivering farm‑fresh eggs from his own hens to residents, cafés and businesses. Wilf’s 1964 Morris Minor, which he had owned since 1972, became inseparable from his identity. 
Curator of Social History Bethan Pritchard said: “The van’s arrival at Somerset Rural Life Museum celebrates Wilf’s extraordinary contribution to community life and preserves his story for future generations. His devotion to his simple but essential rounds — carried out in all weathers — made him a beloved figure in the community.
“Wilf’s iconic Morris Minor van represents a time-gone-by, so we are delighted that it is being preserved as part of the South West Heritage Trust collections.”
The Morris Minor van will be on display in the Abbey Barn during the Easter holidays. Visitors to the museum can enjoy a variety of family friendly activities including egg day on Friday, April 10. Throughout the holiday there are also egg hunts, visiting bunnies and donkeys and lots of creative Easter crafts.
