WPA is launching a new Skin Support Pathway in partnership with MySkinDoctor. This innovative web-based service gives WPA customers rapid and convenient access to consultant dermatologists, delivering expert diagnosis and treatment plans within three working days — all without the need for a GP referral.
The initiative addresses challenges in both the NHS and private sector. Earlier this year, nearly half (43% – BBC) of NHS dermatology waiting times exceeded the 18-week standard at the start of 2025 and, according to MySkinDoctor, it is not uncommon for private patients to be waiting 6-8 weeks for a first appointment dependent on a GP referral and regional variations.
Through the secure MySkinDoctor web-based app, customers simply upload photos of their skin concern — from acne, eczema, and rosacea to mole or lesion changes — and receive a consultant-led diagnosis and personalised care plan. Where clinically appropriate, a private prescription can be provided at the customer’s own cost.
The pathway is available 24/7, supports both adults and children, and can be used without affecting policy excesses, annual benefit limits, or no-claims discounts. For cases requiring further investigation, MySkinDoctor can arrange an in-person consultation with a dermatologist through WPA’s standard claim pre-authorisation process.
This latest pathway builds on WPA’s well-established Mental Health, Cancer, and Musculoskeletal pathways demonstrating the insurer’s continued investment in digital-first, clinically led healthcare solutions.
Sharon Shier (pictured), WPA’s Chief Customer Officer, said: “Our pathway strategy is about easing worries, giving customers fast, convenient access to expert care when they need it most. Skin Support adds another dimension to our digital healthcare offering, helping individuals and families feel confident that professional advice is always available.”
One My Skin Doctor patient observed it was “Extremely easy to use this site and insert both photos and text. Reassuring to know a skin specialist will review the case – at least in initial stage- and all without leaving home!”
