Bridgwater & Taunton College hosted a royal visit that highlighted both the exceptional achievements of young people across Somerset and the ground-breaking educational practices of the College’s nursing programmes.
The Princess Royal met with the Pride of Somerset Youth Award (POSYA) winners and student nurses studying at the college. The Pride of Somerset Youth Awards celebrate the achievements of young people from across the county.
During her visit, The Princess Royal talked to award winners, discussing their projects and the impacts of their work on the community. The winners showcased a variety of initiatives from environmental campaigns to community health projects, demonstrating the diverse ways in which young people are making a positive difference in Somerset.
Andy Berry CBE, Principal of Bridgwater & Taunton College, said: “The royal visit highlights the role of the college as an anchor organisation within the community.
“Our vision is to transform lives and communities through effective partnerships that positively impact our students. I was proud to have the opportunity to demonstrate our vision in action and celebrating the achievements of people within our local community.”
Her Royal Highness also spoke to student nurses from the college’s award-winning nursing provision, where she was able to meet student nurses and nurse educators. They shared personal testimonials about the transformative effect their training had had on their lives, families, and future careers.
“We were incredibly honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness,” said Nigel Muers-Raby, CEO and Founder of Passion for Somerset CIC, the not-for-profit community Interest Company behind the Pride of Somerset Youth Awards. “Award winners were delighted to meet The Princess Royal and have their efforts recognised.”
