Richard Huish College sports careers event inspires students

Huish sport, exercise and coaching students were inspired by sports industry professionals (most of which were Huish alumni) at a career-focused event this week.

The event kicked off with a group talk from Rhys Beer on ‘The Business of Sport’. As a former Huish student, Rhys gave students a valuable opportunity to hear from someone who had once been in their position.

Students were then split into groups to attend different employer-led sessions. The workshops offered real insights into the many sports-based career opportunities available after college. There was also the chance to have a bit of fun, with highlights including archery practice and a ‘hop test’!

The college thanked the following participants sharing their industry insights:

  • Rhys Beer, Next Wave Sports and Media / England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB)
  • Steph Moreland, Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP)
  • Simon Ingram, Physiotherapist, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust / Getting It Right the First Time (GIRFT)
  • Toni Smyth, Somerset Cricket Foundation
  • Jack Lyons, Cardiff Metropolitan University
  • Ellie Tickner, Premier Education

Anyone who works in the sports industry and is interested in engaging with the Huish community, should contact careers@richuish.ac.uk.
