Weston College hosted its first open event of the year, ‘What Next?’, drawing over 700 local attendees to the Winter Gardens.
This highly anticipated event is a key date in the college’s calendar, especially for Year 10 and 11 students. It showcased a wealth of opportunities, giving students a glimpse into potential career pathways.
The event provided attendees with a chance to explore various career options, meet Weston College staff from all faculties, and engage with a wide range of employers. Employers like Bristol Airport, Thatchers, Lloyds Bank, the Royal Air Force, the Ministry of Defence, and many more were on hand to offer insights into career prospects in their industries.
Thatchers Head of Talent Development, Stephen Penfold, said: “Weston College has put on a fantastic, showcase event which gives us, as employers, the opportunity to speak to young people about how they develop their careers and inform them about our wonderful opportunities at Thatchers.”
In addition to the range of employers, the event highlighted Weston College’s Careers Excellence Hubs, providing detailed information on courses such as early years, creative arts, construction and engineering. Students had the opportunity to meet lecturers from each discipline, ask questions and explore their options in depth.
The event also featured bookable inspire talks, offering a more focused look at specific pathways like A Levels, T Levels, apprenticeships, supported internships (SEND), traineeships and vocational courses. These sessions were highly popular, providing essential information and helping students and parents prepare for the next academic year.
Weston College’s next open event takes place on October 9 – more details here.
