College debuts new tools and facilities to support hybrid and electric vehicles

The automotive industry is in the midst of a major transformation, as hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) become increasingly popular. These vehicles offer a number of advantages over traditional cars, including lower emissions, reduced fuel costs, and a quieter volume of operation.

Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) is at the forefront of educating the next generation of highly-specialised automotive workers.

The college has received significant investment to its automotive department, which includes state-of-the-art electrical vehicle training facilities and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) to ensure studies stay current with the rapidly changing market.

Prospective mechanics will have to embrace a new world of tech that promises to evolve even further in the coming years.

Whether in newly refurbished workshops or classrooms, students gain the knowledge and skills required to pursue a career and further education in this field.

With brand-new vehicles, such as a Toyota Corolla GR Sport, Volkswagen e-Golf and Honda Civic Type R, the colleges teachers and tutors are ensuring students are future-proofing their chosen vocation.

The growth of the EV market is creating new opportunities for those interested in an automotive career. As an increasing number of people switch petrol for electric, there will be a further need for more skilled technicians to repair and maintain these vehicles.

So far in 2023:

• A BTC student was crowned The Institute of the Motor Industry’s Student of the Year and was awarded The Fellowship of the Motor Industry’s Outstanding Achiever Award

• Both Bridgwater & Taunton campuses debuted the ADAS alongside diagnostic equipment from Autel

• The college’s motorsport team took to the road once again, competing in competitions across the country with a team eager to prove themselves

The college is curently offering a free introduction to hybrid / electric vehicles course aimed at Year 10s and 11s in the Bridgwater area. Find out more about the course here: https://bit.ly/3GAWV4x.
