The Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) motorsport team has taken delivery of two Audi TTs which were previously used for track racing.
Grand Prix Racewear (GPR) arranged the delivery, which was welcomed by ecstatic students and curriculum staff. GPR operates from the home of British Motorsport, the Silverstone Circuit, and has established itself as the premier UK supplier of Racewear and associated products.
GPR ran a race series called GPR Trophy, which consisted of Audi TTs in a three-round tournament. It took place across three UK circuits – including Snetterton 300, Oulton Park International, and Donington Park GP.
The Audi TTs will be used by BTC’s FE (Level 2 and 3) and HE (Level 4 and 5) students on various different projects, where they will have the opportunity to work on these ex-race cars with the potential of getting them back to track-ready condition.
The cars were accompanied by an extensive parts and spares package to be used in the vehicles’ reconstruction, which the students were keen to unpack, identify and plan for the projects ahead.
This complements the college’s reputation in the motorsport world, with the motorsport team competing across the country. Most recently, driver Josh Smith qualified second in the GT class of Castle Combe’s Racing Club’s Combe Countdown event while being supported by foundation degree students.
Beyond this, Luke Chard-Maple made steady time improvements during his debut season in the Gurston Down Hill Climb series whilst being supported by Level 2 and 3 Motorsport students.
Justin Blake, Course Leader, said: “This delivery demonstrates our dedication to providing the very best teaching provisions and environment to an extraordinary set of students.
“These Audis have found a new home at BTC and we cannot wait for the students to start reconstructing and preparing these vehicles for a potential return to the track. Their excitement is evident and I want to say a huge thank you to Grand Prix Racewear for their part in making this possible.”
