Top athletes and TV personalities share career insights in new talk series

This spring, Taunton Brewhouse welcomes a stellar line-up of celebrated personalities for a series of intimate ‘In Conversation’ events.

From culinary legends and comedy icons to sporting greats, these special evenings offer fans the chance to hear personal anecdotes and behind-the-scenes stories from some of the most fascinating figures in their fields.

Launching the series on Tuesday, March 18, renowned restaurateur, presenter and novelist Dame Prue Leith (pictured) takes to the stage for an exclusive evening discussing her extraordinary career. Best known as a judge on The Great British Bake Off, Prue has also been a business leader, educator, and award-winning author of cookbooks and novels.

Among her awards she has a DBE, 12 honorary degrees or fellowships from UK universities, the Veuve Clicquot Businesswoman of the Year, and her restaurant, Leith’s, won a Michelin star. Join her as she reflects on her journey through food, writing, television, and beyond.

Comedy fans are also in for a real treat as Joe Thomas, best known for playing the socially awkward Simon Cooper on The Inbetweneers, will be celebrating 16 years of the British sitcom on Wednesday, March 19.

Joe will share insights into the show’s record-breaking success, as well as his work on White Gold, Taskmaster and The Great Celebrity Bake Off. There will also be an audience Q&A and the chance to meet Joe after the show.

Later this month, on Wednesday, March 26, snooker legend Jimmy “The Whirlwind” White makes a special appearance, accompanied by renowned commentator, John Virgo, and 1997 World Champion, Ken Doherty. With stories, live frames of snooker and an exclusive trick shot masterclass, this show promises to be a must-see for fans of the sport. Plus, the audience will have the opportunity to put their own questions to these snooker greats.

On Thursday, April 3, football fans will have the rare opportunity to spend an evening with Sir Geoff Hurst, the England hat-trick hero from the 1966 World Cup. Now 83, Sir Geoff is embarking on what is likely to be his final tour, bringing fans an unmissable show filled with stories from his illustrious career with West Ham and England.

Interviewed by his long-time friend and agent Terry Baker, the evening will feature plenty of footballing nostalgia and amusing anecdotes. With 499 league and cup appearances for West Ham, 248 goals, and an FA Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup to his name, Sir Geoff’s career is nothing short of legendary.

Concluding the series on Thursday, May 15, Sir Ian Botham OBE sits down with fellow cricket icon Graham Gooch for an evening of career reflections, candid insights, and sporting anecdotes. From unforgettable moments on the pitch to his extensive charity work, this will be a spectacular celebration of one of cricket’s greatest all-rounders.
