Taunton School sixth form students celebrate exam success

Students at Taunton School sixth form are celebrating outstanding personal success in their A-Level and BTEC qualifications.

The cohort of 130 students achieved 61% A* – B, or equivalent, in their A-Level, BTEC and International Baccalaureate qualifications, while 40% of their results were awarded the highest grades of A* – A.

The top 100 students achieved an impressive 76% A* – B or equivalent and 51% A*- A.

Graham Mallard, Deputy Head Academic at Taunton School, said: “We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 leavers, who have surpassed expectations through their determination and hard work. In addition to outstanding individual successes, across our A-Level, BTEC and IB qualifications, their results also reflect significant value added.

“We are very grateful to all those in the Taunton School community, who make such results possible through the excellent teaching, support and care they provide to all our students. We wish our leavers the very best as they take their exciting next steps and we look forward to seeing where they go, and what they achieve, from here.”

Taunton School also offers its sixth form students the chance to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) alongside their studies and this year 70% of students saw their EPQs awarded A*-A in a wide range of topics beyond the Sixth Form curriculum.

Year 13 A-Level student, Orlando, has spent 16 years at Taunton School having started his journey at the achool’s nursery and spent his final year as Deputy Head of School. Orlando commented: “I am really pleased with my A-Level results and have now had my place to study Geography at the University of Exeter confirmed.

“I have absolutely loved my time at Taunton School. It has been an incredible experience. I’m very sad to be leaving but I’m looking forward to taking my next steps.”

Earlier this summer, Taunton School’s Year 13 students celebrated their results from the International Baccalaureate Diploma. With an average score of 34 points and a 100% pass rate, they significantly exceeded the global average.

Students will now progress to higher education at a wide range of institutions including the Universities of Cambridge, Bath and Exeter, the London School of Economics, and University College London, in addition to more than fifteen institutions abroad.
