Taunton Brewhouse has addresed concerns raised regarding its future, following recent discussions at a full meeting of Somerset Council about potential changes to funding.
The theatre confirmed it is working closely with both Somerset Council and Taunton Town Council to develop a plan to support the long-term sustainability of the venue.
Val Hammond, Chair of Board of Taunton Theatre Association Ltd, said: “Whilst work on the detailed arrangements is ongoing, the Board of Taunton Theatre Association believes that the outcome will see a secure future for Taunton Brewhouse, enabling it to continue to serve the community for many years to come.”
Advance ticket monies are held in savings accounts, earning interest for the charity as well as offering assurance. In the meantime, shows are already booked into the theatre throughout 2025 and 2026, with Taunton Brewhouse continuing to provide a broad programme of live events, cinema, activities and exhibitions, with the theatre’s café and bar playing an increasing role.
Staff are also working hard on this year’s Christmas show, Pinocchio, which hopes to attract record numbers.
A spokesperson added: “Taunton Brewhouse appreciates the support and enthusiasm of its friends and patrons and remains committed to serving as a cultural hub and vibrant part of the local community.”
