Taunton Brewhouse has announced a spectacular winter season filled with the very best in comedy, drama, music, cinema and family entertainment.
The theatre’s popular Brewhaha Comedy Nights are set to light up the stage once again, showcasing a mix of seasoned pros and rising stars. With top comedians including Shaparak Khorsandi, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Mark Watson, and Lucy Porter, there’s a perfect blend of sharp wit and hilarious stories.
For those with more alternative tastes, one of Britain’s most beloved entertainers – Basil Brush – returns with a raunchy, adults-only show, and the cast of Sh!t-faced Shakespeare promise a hilariously boozy adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The drama lineup brings a dynamic mix of compelling stories and thought-provoking themes. The Long Run delivers a tender story of human connection and long-distance running, while The Fallout explores love, conflict, and space travel in a compelling narrative.
Fresh from a Brits Off Broadway run, The Brief Life and Mysterious Death of Boris III, King of Bulgaria tells the raucous and poignant tale of underdogs outwitting the Nazis and Bright Places adds a touch of 90s pop to a three-woman show about multiple sclerosis.
For families, there’s a wide range of shows to entertain children of all ages. Science Museum Live ignites curiosity with hands-on experiments, while the Trash Test Dummies bring an epic hour of slapstick comedy and mind-blowing circus skills. A modern retelling of Little Red Riding Hood also offers a delicious twist on a classic tale, and little ones will particularly enjoy The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Dear Zoo, and The Amazing Bubble Man.
From big bands to acoustic sets, there’s something for every music fan. Al Lloyd and his 16-piece orchestra showcase the South West’s top jazz talent, Grammy-nominated The Tiger Lillies bring their unique post-punk sound to the stage, and folk-infused singer-songwriter Lizzy Hardingham is joined by alt-rock instrumentalists Pillow Fite for an intimate performance.
For something extra special, ABC’s Martin Fry will offer a musical celebration in honour of his new autobiography and star of ITV’s The Chase, Jenny “The Vixen” Ryan ditches daytime telly for songs, storytelling, and showbiz secrets. Tribute acts will also pay homage to music legends like Lionel Richie, Elton John, Kate Bush, Meat Loaf, Tina Turner, and Elvis Presley.
Other highlights include an evening with award-winning travel writer Simon Parker, who will share his incredible 4,327-mile cycling journey across the US ahead of the presidential election, a show-stopping performance from The Ladyboys of Bangkok and a night of magic, mind reading and comedy hypnosis with The Poldark Show.
Cinephiles will continue to enjoy a selection of blockbusters and independent films, as well as new releases from Exhibition on Screen and the Royal Ballet and Opera. Movie Mondays also remain, with £5 tickets to select films and a complimentary hot drink and biscuit.
This season, the Brewhouse is also offering a fantastic array of weekly classes and workshops designed to spark artistic inspiration. Creatives can enjoy everything from chunky knitting, silver jewellery making, and creative writing, to photography, needle felting, and willow weaving.
And, of course, the festive season wouldn’t be complete without the Brewhouse’s highly anticipated Christmas show. This year, the puppet Pinocchio magically springs to life, diving nose-first into an adventure of carnivals, crickets, and crooks. Featuring charming original music and captivating puppetry, this fresh retelling of a beloved classic promises to be a magical experience for all the family.
The show runs from December 4 – 29 and is complemented by a Visit Father Christmas experience, in which families can wander through a vibrant enchanted forest inspired by the popular tale.
Vickie Robbins, Executive Director, comments: “Our winter season looks to be busier than ever before with lots of fun entertainment and events to see. We’re really looking forward to bringing Pinocchio to Taunton in an extravaganza of colour, music, and lively performance. We hope you can come along and enjoy the experience.”
