Young people aged 16-19 years old who are interested in making films ae being encouraged to join Somerset Film’s BFI Film Academy. The comprehensive filmmaking course will take place in Taunton at the end of October.
The British Film Institution (BFI) Film Academy will once again be working in partnership with Somerset Film to provide an exciting, action-packed filmmaking experience for young creatives in Somerset!
It is an excellent first step on the ladder for young, aspiring filmmakers looking to work in the film and media industry. The cohort will make films, receive masterclasses from industry professionals and receive career support whilst working towards a nationally recognised Arts Award qualification.
In January this year, through the BFI Film Academy, young filmmakers were treated to an editing masterclass with Mick Audsley, the Editor for blockbuster feature films such as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Murder on the Orient Express and Everest.
The students also experienced a casting masterclass with Casting Director Hannah Marie Williams who has over 10 years’ experience from all corners of the industry and has worked on features such as Tarzan, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, War Machine, and Beast. Guest speakers for the October 2022 Academy are yet to be announced but are likely to be just as exciting!
“We are passionate about giving young filmmakers opportunities in Somerset. Partnering with BFI to provide the Film Academy gives them hands-on experience, and knowledge to pursue their creative direction in the film industry,” said Laura French, Assistant Producer and BFI Co-ordinator.
The BFI Film Academy costs £25 to participate, but if this is an issue people should apply anyway as bursaries are available and the fee can be waived.
The course dates are: Saturday, October 15, Saturday, October 22 and every week day from Monday, October 24 to Friday, October 28 and run from 10am to 5pm.
The application deadline is midnight on Sunday, October 2, 2022 and can be done online here: www.somersetfilm.com/get-involved/bfi-film-academy
Participants do not need to be studying media to apply.
