Secret World Wildlife Rescue is delighted to announce that Billy Heaney will be joining Secret World as its latest patron.
Billy is a zoologist, wildlife presenter, filmmaker and keen paddle-boarder, who has featured on BBC Countryfile and BBC Radio 4’s Nature Table.
He is also a regular guest on BBC Radio Gloucestershire talking about seasonal wildlife highlights near his home in Gloucestershire. Billy is passionate about wildlife and inspiring others to learn more about the natural world.
The wildlife charity recently held its first “Wild Weekend” event, a two-day event which took place over the late May bank holiday weekend at which Billy gave his fascinating “Billy’s Wildlife Roadtrip” talk.
A slight departure from Secret World’s previous fun weekends, the focus was entirely on education with a wide variety of wildlife talks, children’s educational activities, workshops, market stalls, as well as food and drink and fundraising games. Attendees enjoyed talks and workshops on a selection of topics with speakers including Brigit Strawbridge, Ed Drewitt, Martin Hughes-Games, and the charity’s founder Pauline Kidner.
This new event is in keeping with the charity’s aims to educate the public about the natural world, inspiring a love and respect for nature and wildlife and encouraging people to do what they can to protect it.
George Bethell, Head of Education and Public Relations at the Highbridge-based charity, said: “It is great to have Billy on board, supporting and promoting our work and we are looking forward to working with him in the future.”
Billy Heaney joins a selection of well-known names in wildlife and conservation who are also patrons of the charity, including Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan, Martin Hughes-Games and Hannah Stitfall.
