Summerfield, the Taunton based development company, welcomed over 160 people from businesses across the south west to its annual charity boules tournament at Taunton Deane Cricket Club in aid of its Summerfield Force for Good Fund.
The tournament, now in its 13th year, is an opportunity for individuals to play the sport of boules, similar to lawn bowls, but originating in France, to network and to contribute to a charitable fund which this year is supporting Somerset Community Foundation.
Forty teams converged on the cricket club, where Summerfield is a sponsor, armed with their boules sets and ready for a bit of friendly competition in the knock out tournament. The finals saw teams from Robert Cooney, Porter Dodson, Wilkie May & Tuckwood and Risdons playing for their place, with Robert Cooney winning The Cup competition and Risdons Solicitors winning The Plate competition.
There was also a prize for the best fancy dress which went to Fairhursts’ team, with the wooden spoon being taken by the ‘The Boule Belles’ from Morledge & Co. and ’The DC’ team from Devon Contractors just missing out on the spoon for last place.
The event raised £2,300 from the businesses participating, which Summerfield topped up to make a total donation of £3,300 to its Force for Good Fund, administered by Somerset Community Foundation.
James Holyday, Group Managing Director for Summerfield said: “Despite the showers amongst the sunshine, this event was our best one yet with a fantastic sum of money raised for a great cause. I would like to thank everyone for supporting the event and to the whole team involved in ensuring it happens every year. As a result, we have been able to raise over £30,000 since 2011, which is incredible.”
