New folk series at Taunton Brewhouse celebrates Somerset’s musical roots

Taunton Brewhouse is launching a new folk series, bringing a carefully curated selection of folk artists to its intimate Studio Theatre. Rooted in tradition while open to new ideas, the series celebrates folk music as something living, shared, and constantly evolving.

The 2026 folk series brings together artists working across traditional and contemporary folk, each with a  distinct voice and relationship to the genre. From the New-Folk energy of Bristol trio Tarren to the improvised, in-the-moment soundscape of The Ciderhouse Rebellion, the series reflects the breadth of what folk music can be today.

Audiences can also expect the cross-cultural collaboration of Ross Grant and Hartwin Dhoore, blending English and European folk traditions; Highland fiddler Laura Jane Wilkie, whose work draws on ancient women’s songs and modern improvisation; powerful ballad singer and songwriter Holly Clarke; and acclaimed guitarist and songwriter Jon Wilks, whose work bridges traditional folk and contemporary songwriting.

Each performance takes place in the Taunton Brewhouse Studio Theatre. With artists and audiences only a few feet apart, the folk series invites people to slow down, tune in, and connect with the artform.

Folk music has deep roots in Somerset, shaped by landscape, community, and shared stories. This series honours that heritage while welcoming new voices and approaches, offering a space where long-time folk fans and newcomers alike can feel at home.

The Folk Series runs throughout the year, launching with Tarren on Saturday, February 7.
