Lendology scoops national award for tackling loan sharks

Lendology CIC, a social enterprise SME based outside Taunton and operating across the UK, has been honoured for its tireless efforts in raising awareness about the dangers of loan sharks.

Lendology CIC serves as a vital link between local councils and homeowners, offering loans to enhance home safety, security and energy efficiency. Over the last 20 years, Lendology has lent over £23 million in local council capital to improve privately owned homes.

Lendology specialises in providing loans for a wide array of solutions, including retrofit and energy efficiency measures, general home repairs and maintenance, landlord and empty property owner support and disability adaptation loans, enabling homeowners to make their homes safer, warmer, and more sustainable.

In addition to their home loan scheme, Lendology has actively engaged in combatting illegal money lending, partnering with the England Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT) to educate communities about the risks associated with loan sharks. Their efforts have earned them the prestigious Partner Recognition accreditation from the IMLT.

Emma Lower, CEO Lendology, said: “Celebrating this recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to safeguarding all individuals from the scourge of loan sharks. At Lendology, we stand firm in our dedication to providing vital financial solutions and empowering homeowners.

“This partnership underscores the importance of our mission and the tireless efforts of our team. As we continue to champion financial inclusion and combat illegal money lending, we remain steadfast in our resolve to serve as a beacon of support for homeowners across the UK.”

Tony Quigley, Head of England Illegal Money Lending Team, said: “We would like to congratulate Lendology on their partner recognition award and thank them for their outstanding efforts tackling loan sharks.

“Loan sharks are criminals that prey on the most vulnerable people in our communities. They trap their victims into spiralling debt and will often use intimidation and violence.

“We will not tolerate illegal money lending and would urge anyone with information about this crime to report it as soon as possible.”
