Arc’s Big Sleep Out is returning to Taunton on Friday, June 9, and the charity is looking for people to take part in the challenge. The annual fundraising event, where participants get sponsored to sleep outside for one night, goes directly towards changing the lives of people suffering with homelessness locally.
Formerly known as Taunton Association for the Homeless, Arc has been in existence for more than 40 years, with 18 properties, housing around 166 people. As well as providing accommodation Arc aims to ensure no-one spends more than one night homeless.
All funds raised at the event will go directly towards all the different services they offer and more information about these can be found here.
Participants taking part in this year’s sleep out can choose from attending the in-person event, which starts at 6.30pm and is held in the car park at number 7, The Crescent, or choose the virtual option instead.
At the in-person event, sleepers will be able to enjoy live music from local artists, purchase hot food and meet members of the charity, before settling down into sleeping bags for the night. Those who choose the virtual option, can sleep out at home and watch the live stream of entertainment.
While the Big Sleep Out shows some of the harsh realities of homelessness, it does not intend to replicate rough sleeping and is safe and suitable for all ages to take part.
Rosie Hather, Head of Business Development, at Arc said: “We hope people can join us at our annual fundraising event. Each year this event raises vital funds to support the local homeless community and makes such a significant difference.
“Sadly, we are constantly having to grow our services as more and more people face homelessness. Arc need’s your support to ensure that no one must face this alone. Giving up a bed for just one night could really change someone’s life”.
To sign up, simply fill out the registration form here. There is a £5.00 registration fee per participant and after signing up you will receive an information pack. For further details please contact Rosie at rhather@arcinspire.co.uk
