Barclays appeals for business mentors to support Lifeskills workshops

As part of Barclays’ Rebuilding Thriving Local Economies initiative, Barclays LifeSkills is seeking local businesses and representatives to join and participate in workshops by volunteering as a mentor.

Barclays LifeSkills aims to help people build the confidence, knowledge and core transferable skills businesses are looking for, as well as improve money skills.

The Talent Foundry, an education charity and Barclays LifeSkills delivery partner, will be delivering a series of employability workshops across secondary schools in Taunton this academic year 2022-23.

Mentoring through this initiative is a chance to support students to develop core transferable skills and prepare them for the next stage of their lives. Specifically, it will involve:

  • Supporting seven employability sessions from October 2022 – July 2023, these will be a mixture of in-person (usually in-school) and virtual, each approximately three hours long
  • Providing insights to students into key employability skill areas including writing CVs, interview skills and being enterprising
  • No prior expertise in mentoring or working with young people is required – comprehensive training and guidance will be included
  • Having an up-to-date DBS check – this will be paid for by Barclays LifeSkills so there will be no financial cost to either the volunteer or their organisation. We would just need a few details to complete the check!

The workshops are also an opportunity to strengthen your connection with the local community and build your organisations’ reputation in the area. Mentors will not only interact with nearby schools but also have the opportunity to network with Barclays team members and other local organisations.
