Amicus Law promotes Head of Commercial Property to Equity Partner

South West legal firm Amicus Law has appointed James Armstrong as its third equity partner, marking a strategic step to strengthen the firm’s commercial offering.

With immediate effect, James, who is the Head of the Commercial Property team, takes an equity stake in the business, becoming the youngest equity partner in the firm’s 20-year history. Qualifying in 2016, James joined Amicus Law in 2020 and is based at the firm’s Southernhay West office in Exeter, where he leads a team of commercial property specialists across the South West.

James said: “I’m incredibly proud to become an equity partner at Amicus Law. Having been part of the firm’s growth over the past few years, it’s a privilege to take on this new responsibility and be more involved with the strategic direction of the business.

“The strength of our commercial property team and the wider firm has always been underpinned by our collaborative approach and focus on delivering practical, high-quality advice to our clients. I’m looking forward to building on that, while continuing to grow the team and supporting the firm’s growth ambitions across the South West.”

Since joining in 2020, James has recruited and established the commercial property team, developing its specialisms to cover a broad range of sales and purchase work including multi-property residential, commercial landlords, complex agricultural matters and bridging finance.

Claire Lovett, Managing Partner at Amicus Law, says: “Since his appointment, James has not only built a highly effective team around him, but has also consistently shown an aptitude for identifying new markets and growth opportunities for the firm. He was already a highly accomplished solicitor when he joined us six years ago – as the years have progressed, he truly has blown us away with his dedication to driving the firm forward.

“He has become integral to our future growth, which is why it’s a natural and obvious progression for him to be promoted to an equity partner. It’s a great pleasure to see him hit this amazing milestone in his career, I’m proud to welcome him into his partnership.”

With offices across the Devon, Somerset and Dorset, Amicus Law’s commercial property team assists landlords, tenants, and landowners with leasing, business sales and purchases.
