Somerset Chamber supports launch of new group to boost business innovation

Somerset Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with Tech West England Advocates to help new business innovation by supporting the launch of a new Emerging Advanced Manufacturing Technologies Working Group.

The launch event will bring together manufacturing businesses who are committed to exploring the latest state-of-the-art technological innovations that can be adopted to drive significant transformation in productivity, talent and skills within the advanced manufacturing sectors.

Attendees will have the opportunity to network with innovators and industry leaders, as well as the chance to find out more about Tech West England Advocates’ plans to make the region the UK’s leading tech hub for advanced manufacturing.

The launch event will take place at iAero, in Yeovil, on Thursday, September 18, from 6pm to 8.30pm.

Speakers will include Charlie Foll, Managing Director of Chamber member Atlantas Marine which was recently honoured with a King’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade – the only recipient in Somerset.

Founded in 2000, Atlantas Marine designs and manufactures underwater inspection cameras and equipment that enable marine inspections to be carried out using unmanned submersible vehicles (Remotely Operated Vehicles or ROVs), controlled on the surface by specialist ROV operators.

The company employs 16 staff from its new state-of-the-art, energy efficient offices in Yeovil. With turnover in excess of £7million and expected to exceed £10million by 2027, the company plans to further expand its sales and inspection services over the coming years, particularly in the offshore wind sector.

There will also be an introduction to Tech West England Advocates from Managing Director Richard Lowe and a welcome to iAero from Somerset Council’s Energy and Aerospace Sector Lead, Corrine Matthews.

Tech West England Advocates is a not-for-profit community and member of Global Tech Advocates, an inclusive global network of tech entrepreneurs, investors and experts. Together they support start-ups, scale ups and established tech companies to connect across international tech eco-systems.

iAero is a strategic partnership between Somerset Council and Leonardo Helicopters, with additional funding from the European Regional Development Fund. It offers the opportunity for start-ups, SMEs, global original equipment manufacturers and other aerospace related industries to collaborate within an innovation space designed to be free from the restraints of normal industrial business-as-usual practices.

Other speakers at the event will include Daniel Jones, Tax Partner and Head of R&D at event sponsor Streets, Clarie Arbery, Director of the West of England Institute of Technology and Co-Lead of the Emerging Advanced Manufacturing Technology Working Group, Nigel Beacom one of the Deputy Lieutenant’s of Somerset and KT Lin of Bellwether Industries.
