New Somerset Skills Forum initiative launched to tackle skills gaps

Somerset Chamber of Commerce has launched a new initiative to gather business and education leaders to drive collaboration to help tackle skills gaps in Somerset.

The Somerset Skills Forum initiative is a collaboration between Somerset Chamber, Yeovil College, Bridgwater and Taunton College and Strode College to facilitate a series of roundtable discussions with industry leaders in the coming months.

The forum events will initially focus on health and social care, engineering and manufacturing and construction green skills sectors. The forum initiative is part of the chamber activity for the Devon and Somerset Local Skills Improvement Plan project (LSIP), funded by the Department for Education, which aims to enhance regional skills programmes by responding to the needs of businesses.

David Crew, Managing Director of Somerset Chamber, said: “Skills, attracting and retaining talent remains a key challenge for businesses in our region. The Somerset Skills Forum initiative will gather industry and education leaders to share good practice, connect professionals and further drive collaboration so employers can access the skilled workforce they need to grow.”
