As we reported on 22nd June, the proposed rail link to Heathrow from the Great Western Main Line aims to improve connections to the UK’s main airport hub from the South West, South Wales, The Midlands and South of the country. Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce have included the scheme in their 2018 Business Manifesto, highlighting it as an opportunity to generate circa £800m in additional economic activity, £1.5bn savings to business and 42,000 jobs for the Thames Valley region.
Benefits to the South West include reduced journey time (up to 30 minutes), reducing congestion on the M4 as well as a reduction in CO2 emissions of circa 5100 tonnes a year.
