Local leaders locked up for charity in Shepton Mallet Prison

On Thursday, July 10, the iron gates of the historic Shepton Mallet Prison will slam shut behind nine brave participants, each taking part in a unique challenge to raise vital funds for life-saving charity, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

Although their “crimes” may be fictitious, the punishments are real. Each inmate will spend one night behind bars, enduring tough chores, chilling ghost tours and challenging escape rooms.

From 12pm on the day of their incarceration, each prisoner will have just 24 hours to raise £800 in bail. Only then can they secure their release.

After the charity invited people across Dorset and Somerset to ‘nominate their boss’ to spend a night in prison, a line-up of nine local individuals has been finalised.

From CEOs and consultants to educators and estate agents, each will face a night behind bars. Their mission? To raise vital funds for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

Meet the inmates:

Charles Hackett, CEO, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance

Crime: Being way too choosy about the office tea.

Helen Haxell, Principal Consultant, AxeSharp Communications

Crime: Loving ghosts by day, but terrified by night.

Jason Fewell, Engineering Director, Wyke Farms Ltd

Crimes (according to colleagues): Delegating the task of delegating, drink smuggling, cheese theft and DJ-ing disasters.

Mark Bolton, CEO and Principal, Yeovil College

Crime: Being too energetic, helpful, and knowledgeable and making the rest of the team look bad!

Joseph Hughes, Partner at Greenslade Taylor Hunt

Crime: Too much sarcasm!

Mark Chugg, Partner, Greenslade Taylor Hunt

Crime: Causing a stir about GTH mugs.

Paul Dunlop, Managing Partner, Blanchards Bailey LLP

Crime: Simply being a lawyer, according to colleagues!

David Crew, Managing Director, Somerset Chamber of Commerce

Crime: Failing to refill the office chocolate hat. A serious offence, indeed.

Councillor David Woan, Associate Lead Member, Economic Development, Somerset

Council

Crime: Too enthusiastic for his own good!

This exciting event aims to raise vital funds and awareness for the charity’s life-saving service and you are encouraged to support the inmates by donating to their bail, cheering them on throughout their prison stay or sharing their predicament!

Will the inmates rise to the challenge, or will they remain behind bars? The charity will be sharing updates as the drama unfolds, so be sure to follow along on social media.
