The countdown has begun to Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance’s 5K Twilight Shift, due to take place on July 5. Spaces are limited so anyone wanting to take part should sign-up now to avoid disappointment!
The 5K Twilight Shift is a fun and family friendly event and will help the charity celebrate 25 years of saving lives by walking, running or jogging, 5K around their airbase at Henstridge Airfield.
Previous participant, Arabella McGeoch, said: “I did the 100mile challenge in October 2024. My friend Jo’s life was saved in December 2024 when she was involved in a serious road traffic accident. I used to run 10k, but haven’t run for several years, so I am setting myself the challenge, even if I walk some of it!”
Leanne Preuss is also taking this opportunity to support her local air ambulance. She sees the Twilight 5K Shift as a new challenge and a chance to enjoy a feel-good event. Leanne is also doing something extraordinary. She will not only run the 5K, but will do so pushing her son, Lewis in his wheelchair!
She said: “Lewis is now in a wheelchair after emergency life-saving spinal surgery last year and he is unable to do it on his own, so I am doing it with him so he can enjoy it. I am doing it for all those who cannot.
“Also, my daughters godmother and our amazing friend works on HEMS on another crew. We are doing it as part of the Friars Moors Vets team as I am a vet nurse, but it is just me that is taking this challenge to push my son cross country in his wheelchair.”
Entrance fees: adults £15, under 16s £10. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
