Toneway to close for two nights in February

Excavation works are continuing to widen the carriageway on the Toneway as part of Somerset County Council’s upgrade of Junction 25 of the M5 in Taunton.

Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd, the principal contractor for the scheme, has broken out 195 metres of the old concrete carriageway – in all, removing approximately 660 tonnes.

Drainage works have started in the verge adjacent to the BP Garage, with two manholes approximately 4 metres deep x 1.8 metres wide installed, plus 30 metres of drainage pipe.  Drainage works will continue for two weeks.

The pre-cast concrete beams for the Blackbrook Bridge are scheduled for delivery during  late February and will be lifted and placed over a period of two days using a 200 tonne crane from the North Side of the bridge.

Over the next three weeks, an Otter Shelf will be constructed on the face of the South Abutment and the drainage to the rear of the North and South Abutments with be installed.

The next set of overnight road closures are scheduled to take place from Tuesday, 18 February to Thursday, 20 February. The Toneway will be closed in both directions between the Hankridge and Junction 25 roundabouts between 8pm and 6am. This will allow the contractors to switch the traffic management so works can be completed on the central reservations.
