The A358 Toneway in Taunton will be reduced to a single lane outbound and two narrow lanes inbound until summer 2020 as part of Somerset County Council’s upgrade of Junction 25 of the M5.
Work will begin “soon” on widening the Toneway, including removing the central reservation and replacing the old concrete road surface.
To keep both the public and the workforce safe the speed limit will be temporarily reduced to 30mph and the number of lanes reduced while works are undertaken.
Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd, the principal contractor for the scheme, said two narrow lanes will be maintained during the day heading inbound towards Taunton from Junction 25 and one lane will be available for traffic heading outbound from Taunton towards Junction 25.
This is due to deep excavations in the highway and the need for working space during the construction works. From Saturday 27 July, between 8pm and 6am, the A358 Toneway will be closed for four nights between the Heron Gate roundabout and Junction 25 while traffic management is installed.
Diversion signs will be in place and details of the full diversion route are available online at https://www.travelsomerset.co.uk/roadworks/.
