Students at Strode College, in Street, have set up a new weekly podcast to support each other during lockdown. ‘The Lockdown Lounge’ is a discussion-based podcast created by students, for students. The weekly show will give students a supportive platform to discuss a range of topics and issues relating to them during lockdown.
Produced and hosted by L3 Creative Media Production students, the first show was piloted at the beginning of February. The pilot featured a lively mix of discussions including politics, board games, lockdown tips and projects and the best lockdown TV.
Content for future weekly shows will be decided by students and will range from serious issues to fun stuff and nonsense. Students can also get involved in producing the show.
Adrian Smith, Course Manager for Creative Media Production, said: “The current lockdown is challenging for everyone, but particularly so for young people, who can experience loneliness, boredom and a sense of isolation through missing social contact with friends.
“We have a fantastic group of students at Strode, who decided to develop the podcast to keep a sense of connection, have some fun and support each other during the lockdown.
“We had a great time recording the pilot and are looking forward to involving more students in future shows.”
Two of the Creative Media Production students involved in the podcast are Jacob Gillingham and Omer Ali (pictured).
Jacob said about the podcast: “The Lockdown Lounge podcast is important to Strode students as it gives them something to relate to and can help them understand what’s going on locally and around the world. I wanted to be a part of something to make others happy, and hope people will enjoy listening to the show”.
Omer added: “I really liked the idea of students meeting and recording a podcast to discuss issues at a very difficult time for everyone.”
All the podcasts recorded will be made available on the College’s Strode TV YouTube channel for anyone wanting to listen in.
