At the start of the year, Strode College student Chloe Smith set herself a challenge, to walk 1000 miles in the Race the World 2021 Challenge and raise money for SUDEP: Sudden and Unexpected Death of Epilepsy charity.
SUDEP Action is dedicated to raising awareness of epilepsy risks and tackling epilepsy. Chloe wanted to give back to the charity after they took care of bereavement costs when someone close to her heart passed away unexpectedly of this cause.
Since starting the challenge on January 1st, Chloe has now raised £513 and walked 583 miles. This is a remarkable achievement during lockdown, whilst also working hard on her A Level studies.
She said: “I am exceptionally proud of what I have achieved so far. The weather has not been good at times, and despite this I have managed to complete over half the challenge. I have found that walking has helped my mental health during this difficult time and given me something other than college work to focus on – I have used it as a way of giving myself a break from work.
Chloe, who formerly attended Wadham School, expects to complete the walking distance by August.
