Richard Huish College joined the fundraising fun on Friday, 27 September, hosting a ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Huish students, staff and local residents from both Calway House and Oake Meadows Care Homes, attended the event.
The College welcomed over elderly residents from nearby homes, assisted by Health and Social Care students. Tables full of mouth-watering cakes, as well as tea and coffee, were on offer in exchange for donations throughout the morning in the College’s main hall.
Students Lexi, Holly, Chloe and Lauryn, who all study Health and Social Care, were taking part in the event and chatted to Stan, one of the elderly residents. The residents raised a cuppa and sampled the delicious treats available to celebrate the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning while listening to musical entertainment from some of the College’s Music students.
Activities Co-ordinator, Louis, who works in dementia care said: “The residents just love to be out in the community meeting new people and seeing new faces. It’s been a lovely event to be involved in and everyone has enjoyed the music and cake.”
Event organisers, Matt Nolan and Mel Winsbrow, added: “The event was a real success, bringing together staff, students, and the local community, while raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Its fast becoming one of our most enjoyable annual fundraising events and it’s a pleasure to see so many people enjoying the coffee morning and supporting this worthwhile charity with us.”
