Former Richard Huish College student wins Apprentice of the Year award

Former Richard Huish College Student, Robbie Adams (pictured) has been awarded The Royal Navy Award for Higher or Degree Apprentice of the Year for the South West region following his outstanding individual work whilst completing his Apprenticeship at IBM. Winning this Award has also put him forward as one of nine finalists for the National Degree Apprentice of the year award.

Back for their 17th year, the National Apprenticeship Awards are a fantastic opportunity to highlight business and individual success in apprenticeships. Particularly poignant this year, given the challenges many employers and apprentices have faced during the pandemic. Each online ceremony recognises apprentices that have gone above and beyond to make a difference whilst undertaking their apprenticeship.

Robbie left Huish in 2016 and joined the IBM Futures programme, a one-year placement scheme for College leavers. On completion Robbie was given the opportunity to join IBM’s Degree Apprenticeship programme as a full-time employee. As part of the scheme he is completing a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions at Exeter University and working for IBM as a Project Manager delivering IT Transformational Projects for IBM’s Banking and Financial markets clients.

Commenting on his achievement, Robbie said: “It’s a great honour to be recognised for all of the hard work I have put in both for IBM’s clients and gaining my degree. Being recognised among the top apprentices in the country is an incredible feeling.”
