Clarke Willmott helps turn former care home into intermediate care facility

Lawyers Clarke Willmott have been working with a Somerset care home group to support the NHS by putting in place arrangements in respect of a former care home to enable the local authority to use it as an intermediate care facility.

The deal is part of a county-wide drive to provide centres for medically well people ready for discharge from hospital but who still require ongoing care, in a move that eases demand on beds at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and Yeovil District Hospital during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Clarke Willmott supported Camelot Care with a speedy turnaround of arrangements in relation to the 39-bed premises in Yeovil – a redundant former nursing home.

Kirill Bingham (left), who is the client partner at Clarke Willmott and heads up the corporate team at the firm’s Taunton office, said: “We were grateful to have the opportunity to support an existing client at this difficult time in a move that will hopefully assist the NHS in a small way.

“We applaud the joint initiative by Somerset’s Local Authorities, Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, the county’s two acute hospitals, Somerset CCG and Somerset Care for initiating the deal.

“I know that our team, particularly David Lovelock, worked hard to deliver an efficient service and I hope that this initiative will make a real positive difference to the local area. We wish everyone involved the very best.”

Paul Teasdale, director of Camelot Care, said: “We really appreciated the support of Kirill Bingham and his team in sorting out the legalities so quickly and efficiently, and I also thank the Camelot Care staff who did such a fantastic job to ensure the home was ready to open within a very tight timescale.”

The Camelot Care Group have three specialist dementia care homes in Wellington, Bridgwater and Plymouth, further details at
