A new Somerset Economic Growth Board will provide the opportunity for Somerset businesses to collaborate with Somerset Council, business representative organisations and other stakeholders to shape the economic future of Somerset based on local need.
The board will act as the ‘business voice’ into the council, providing invaluable business-led insights on the local economy helping us to build on our existing intelligence to shape current and future economic planning.
It will also drive forward economic prosperity in Somerset by overseeing the development and implementation of a new Economic Prosperity Strategy for the county and will work with the authority to influence national policy and secure funding for Somerset, in line with the strategy’s priorities.
The council is keen to appoint private sector board members from a wide range of sectors and business size.
Business owners or senior level business leaders who are passionate about supporting Somerset’s economy are being encouraged to express their interest online before 5pm on Wednesday, May 29.
The board has been formed following the Government’s decision to transfer the functions of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP to Somerset Council and the other upper tier local authorities across the region from April this year.
The aim is to bring decision-making related to economic growth back to local areas, this includes the establishment of the Somerset Economic Growth Board and the development of the new Economic Growth Strategy for Somerset.
Existing strategies can be found on the council’s Somerset Recovery and Growth Plan page.
