Bridgwater & Taunton College wins national apprenticeship award

Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) has been presented with the Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Apprenticeships at the FE Week and AELP AAC Apprenticeship Awards 2021 sponsored by ILM & City & Guilds.

BTC celebrated reaching the finals in three categories at the awards:

  • Agriculture, Environmental and Animal Care Apprenticeship Provider of the Year
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Apprenticeships: Provider (sponsored by City & Guilds and ILM)
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Apprenticeships: Individual (sponsored by City & Guilds and ILM) – Andy Berry, Principal & CEO of BTC.

This comes after being shortlisted in two categories at the Tes FE Awards 2021 earlier on in the year.

The FE Week and AELP AAC Apprenticeship Awards are a celebration of excellence in apprenticeship delivery in the UK and provide an opportunity to give the recognition employers and providers deserve. The Awards were established in 2017 as a joint project by FE Week and AELP, with the national awards ceremony taking place at the Annual Apprenticeship Conference Gala Dinner. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the 2021 National Ceremony was streamed live from a London studio on Thursday, July 8, 2021.

BTC has over 3,000 apprentices and works with over 1,500 employers plus industry specialists, community organisations and awarding bodies to support the national skills agenda. The college’s innovative, accredited and bespoke training programmes are designed with and for businesses to meet their current and future workforce needs. BTC said it was incredibly proud to be leaders in the field for apprenticeships – recruiting and training entire new workforces for major companies, both regionally and nationally.

Principal and CEO of BTC, Andy Berry, said: “Apprenticeships have been a major focus for BTC for a number of years, as we seek to ensure that our local community gains maximum benefit from the vast amount of investment and growth occurring in Somerset. The beauty of an apprenticeship for employers is that we can adapt the training to address their specific needs, enabling them to develop the skilled workforce they need to grow and thrive, both now and in the future.

“BTC has worked tirelessly to bring apprenticeships to the forefront of the local, regional and national skills agendas, and I’m absolutely delighted that the team’s superb contribution has been recognised with this sought-after award.”
