Simply Sig, a Somerset based marketing agency for the hospitality, tourism and leisure industry, was about to launch their business when the Covid-19 outbreak hit and took the country by storm.
At a time when tourism in the UK was about to ramp up, restaurants, hotels and shops were forced to close their doors as Government warnings were issued for people to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel.
Immediately following these announcements, panic buying started, leaving those who kept to their usual shopping routines without everyday necessities. Many found bare shelves at their local shops and stores under siege trying to cope with burgeoning demand and overstretched supply chains.
In an attempt to help their community and struggling businesses, Sig created a website www.simplysig.shop to connect Somerset residents with local suppliers.
With the help of some fantastic volunteers, the website lists companies within Taunton and the surrounding area that are still open for business, under the current strict social distancing regulations. These small shops, pubs and businesses offer either collection or delivery services to their communities.
Within the first four hours of launch, the site saw more than 500 visitors and Simply Sig is now keen to get as many businesses throughout the county listed to help connect the larger Somerset community.
If you’re a local business owner or you know of businesses that is still able to supply food or other essential products, you can get in touch through the website www.simplysig.shop, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
