Arts venue Taunton Brewhouse is collaborating with local charity Taunton Foodbank to offer families free tickets to see A Christmas Carol later this year.
A festive adventure featuring puppetry, original music and a sprinkling of Somerset magic, the new version of Charles Dickens’ classic tale is adapted by Pleasure Dome Theatre and directed by acclaimed West End theatre-maker Scott Le Crass.
Customers purchasing tickets for A Christmas Carol will be asked if they would like to donate to the ‘Pay it Forward’ campaign. Every penny in donations will be used to fund free tickets for families who would otherwise not be able to see the show. The free tickets will be distributed by Taunton Foodbank.
Taunton Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. The charity provides three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. They opened in 2012 and last year gave 4900 seven-day food supplies to families in need.
Vickie Hobbs, Executive Director at Taunton Brewhouse, said: ‘Our purpose as an arts charity is to provide a welcoming, vibrant and high quality venue for our local community.
“We believe that the magic of experiencing theatre at Christmas should be for everyone so are thankful that we can collaborate with Taunton Foodbank to distribute free tickets to families who otherwise would not be able to join us. We also hope that this campaign raises awareness of the vital work that the Foodbank do.”
A spokesperson for Taunton Foodbank added: “The Foodbank has never been busier than this year and the need shows no signs of reducing. This increase in people using the foodbank means we need to see a corresponding increase in the amount of food donated to the foodbank.
“We are very grateful for all the support we get from local people and businesses, the Foodbank really is a community effort.”
A Christmas Carol runs at Taunton Brewhouse from December 4-30. Customers can book tickets and donate to the Pay it Forward campaign now by visiting tauntonbrewhouse.co.uk or calling the Box Office on 01823 283244.
