Throughout the summer holidays, a new series of workshops at Taunton Brewhouse is offering young people a chance to get creative on a weekly basis.
Every Tuesday from July 25 – August 29, young people can discover new skills in a range of disciplines, including physical theatre, willow weaving, film making, dance, music, print making and more.
The arts centre will be running two workshops per week – a morning session for 8-12 year olds, and an afternoon session for 12-17 year olds. Each workshop will finish with a hot meal freshly prepared on site and the chance to socialise with new friends. People can book for a single workshop or get the full experience and book them all. The meal is included in the ticket price.
First up on July 25 is physical theatre. In the morning, the younger group will learn about physical theatre in the context of video games. In the afternoon, the older group will explore the key skills they need for a successful audition.
Next up on August 1 will be two sessions focused on willow sculptures. Both groups will make small willow pieces including hearts, fish, stars and trees.
The third theme on August 8 will be mixed media print making. Participants will experiment with a broad range of materials and develop an understanding of the components of a successful composition and print.
On August 15, the morning group will take place in a fun nature craft workshop inspired by the outdoors while the afternoon group will learn the basics of samba music. Both groups will also complete their sessions by learning how to make pizza.
Looking to perfect your tiktok skills? Join the filmmaking workshops on August 22 for an introduction to using green screen, VJing software and camera equipment.
The final sessions in the series will take place on August 29 and will focus on dance.
The creative summer workshops are part funded by Happy Healthy Holidays Somerset Programme and are part of Taunton Brewhouse’s wider holiday programme, which includes family theatre shows such as The Snail and the Whale and short courses such as theatre making summer school.
Participants can book for the workshops online here or by calling the Box Office on 01823 283244 (open Mon – Fri, 10am – 4pm).
