Some 17 students from across Taunton School’s prep and senior schools will train with Somerset County Cricket Club during the winter period.
In addition to county selection, senior school students Ben Mason, AJ McKay, Kian Roberts and Joleigh Roberts have been selected for the Elite Player Programme and have been taking part in sessions at school during the lockdown period.
Once restrictions have lifted, the aspiring cricketers will train at the County Ground. Somerset coaches Andrew Griffiths (Pathway Bowling Coach) and Matt Drakeley (Head of Performance Cricket) will also lead training sessions at school.
Year 11 student Ollie Heard has been selected for the Potential Somerset Players Programme, which offers the potential to progress onto the Somerset County Cricket Club Academy.
Marcus Trescothick, Development Cricket Coach at Taunton School, who is currently in South Africa with the England team, said: “This is excellent news for all the players and it provides them all with an opportunity to progress towards their ambitions of being professional cricketers. I enjoyed working with them before I left, I am hearing good reports of what they are doing in the school programme and will relish the opportunity to see them again on my return. Congratulations to them all!”
