Local company SSG Training and Consultancy have become the most recent organisation to adopt the Armed Forces Covenant in the South West; one of only 1,300 businesses across the UK to have done so already.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation, ensuring that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly. Businesses, from sole-traders to multinational, public bodies or charities who wish to support the Armed Forces community can sign the Covenant and publicly declare their commitments.
SSG’s covenant will cover the whole of the South West region. The company will endeavour to provide support in the employment of veterans young and old and service spouses and partners. SSG will support their own employees who choose to be members of the Reserve Forces as well as offer support to local cadet units in the community.
SSG Training and Consultancy is based in Plymouth and delivers health, safety, environmental and HR services to both large and small companies across the South West. The SSG team consists of several consultants and trainers with a forces background. Miles Redhead, Andrew Naish and Tim Harnett served in the Royal Engineers, Gemma McDonald served with the Royal Navy and Ian Tagg served first with the Defence Fire Service and then with the Royal Navy. Tim Harnett also continues to serve as a member of the Army Reserves.
