ORCHID celebrates top honour in industry awards for COVID PR campaign

One of Somerset’s leading creative agencies, ORCHID, is celebrating being awarded a Mark of Excellence at this year’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Excellence awards. The industry awards recognise the phenomenal work of PR practitioners around the globe during the pandemic as communicators supported senior leaders to steer a crisis response like no other.

With its HQ in Jersey, and studios in Frome and Manchester, ORCHID created the #wecandothis campaign for client Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management. The campaign was awarded the Mark of Excellence in the Employee Engagement category.

Sam Watts, Managing Director of ORCHID, said: “In March 2020, the Canaccord workforce was displaced as COVID-19 took hold. Our campaign, which was created and launched within two weeks of lockdown, was pivotal in engaging and motivating Canaccord’s workforce, with a vital focus on positive mental and physical health.

“Triggering unprecedented engagement scores and positive feedback in staff surveys, we were incredibly proud of the impact the campaign had. At ORCHID we’re passionate about producing communications campaigns that create positive change and it’s great to see the hard work and dedication by all those involved being recognised by the prestigious CIPR Excellence Awards.”

The #wecandothis campaign built on Canaccord’s strong relationship with TeamedUp who support Olympic and Paralympic athletes on their journey to international competition. With many of these athletes stuck at home following a cancelled Olympics, it was the perfect opportunity to support them and rally their skills to help keep the Canaccord staff motivated.

Alternating between active content and mental health and wellbeing insights, the campaign included a series of workout and wellbeing videos filmed by the athletes, coupled with supporting factsheets. The athletes learned how to film and edit remotely from their kitchens, bedrooms and lounges in the process!

Five Olympic athletes recorded their “at home workouts” and Olympian Lizzie Simmonds filmed talks on motivation, goal setting, managing stress, teamwork, and resilience. A dedicated microsite meant customers, family and friends could also access the motivational content too. Commenting on ORCHID’s campaign, the CIPR Excellence award judges said: “We felt this deserved a merit for the positivity and creativity of using the Olympians once Tokyo 2020 was cancelled. The ten-week content campaign netted some great results and really seemed to give the employees an engaging experience.”
