PROMISEworks is a local charity and Somerset Chamber member which is making a big difference in Somerset, by offering mentoring services to disadvantaged children across the county.
A new website has just been launched by the charity as Christell Charles, Case-Holder for Taunton, explained: “We are trying to keep visible online and having a new website will really assist us. We mention our website lot in our social media – so we are hoping that our new website will really help to generate more awareness.
“The website has feedback from mentees, research and case studies of young people. The website is central to our visibility online and gives more information about who we are and what we do as an organisation.”
The charity is dedicated to supporting its current mentoring relationships during the current period of isolation and has created a Facebook closed group so that all of the mentors can share ideas.
The mentors have been extremely creative in devising fun activities for young people. Mentors have been reading stories over FaceTime, writing letters, drawing pictures and taking part in video cook-offs. The charity has sent out craft packs to keep young people busy and increased the level of support for their mentors. PROMISEworks’ focus at present is to continue supporting the current mentoring relationships and to assist the families at this time of isolation.
To complete their vital work, the charity needs support. Businesses can help by encouraging their employees to become mentors. The charity hopes that as soon as they are able to, they can start their mentor training again. Businesses can also follow them on social media to help keep them visible and help spread awareness.
The charity is always happy to talk about what they do and would welcome any questions that people may have. More information is available online at: www.promiseworks.org.uk
