Marsha named as a finalist in the 2019 Successful Women Awards

Somerset Chamber member, Marsha Miles, Founding Director of Miles Phillips Consulting Limited is delighted to have been announced as a finalist in the 2019 Successful Women Awards in the Socially Minded category.

Miles Phillips Consulting Ltd help social enterprises and charities to develop organisational strength and improve their resilience. They do this through providing consultancy services to clients across the South West including bid writing, fundraising, business planning, training and coaching and evaluation and research.

“The business world is full of hugely talented and successful women who not only run businesses or work in demanding roles, but often also juggle caring responsibilities at the same time and they don’t always recognise their own amazing achievements,” said Gill Donnell MBE, who runs the Successful Women in Business Network across Devon, Somerset, Dorset and Hampshire.

She wanted to create an opportunity for both her members and other businesswomen to receive that recognition and so the Successful Women Awards were born. Gill also wanted her members to be a part of the awards process and this year 10 of the 11 awards sponsors are members of her network.

The Socially Minded Award was created by sponsor and leading law firm Humphries Kirk who believe it is important to support their local communities and give back to the areas that they work in. The award reflects that commitment to businesses with a social responsibility or support of charities.

Marsha was nominated by several people, including Gill, after she heard her story about leaving the private sector to work for charities.

Marsha said: “When I joined Mind, I had experienced burnout from working in the private sector.  I am passionate about recovery and how powerful and important the simple tools of self-care are.  I soon realised that I could turn my experiences into ways to help others.

“I met so many women who had lost their confidence, felt vulnerable and were unable to see a positive future.  I am a keen advocate of empowerment for woman and by winning this award I would feel honoured to be able to share my story with others so that they can be inspired to follow their vision, too.”

Marsha added: “Every company has an important role to play in being socially minded in their corporate social responsibility too.  At Miles Phillips, we lead by example and do reduced fee and voluntary work, too.”

The awards ceremony will be held on Friday, 7th June 2019 at the George Albert Hotel and Spa from 6pm – 11pm.
