Bridgwater & Taunton College has secured funding for a new Welding Centre of Excellence (WCoE) to be based at the Bridgwater Campus.
Working in collaboration with Weldability Sif, South West Institute of Technology, Hinkley Point C and Heart of the South West LEP, there will be a clear focus on creating a world-class technical curriculum that employers drive and which students aspire to.
The WCoE will address regional skills shortages in welding and associated trades, providing training for new entrants into the industry and upskilling, training and trade testing for those already employed in the sector.
In order for the college to tailor the curriculum to industry needs, the college is inviting employers to have a say at a welding forum. Prospective employers will be able to find out how they can get involved and ways in which the college can support training and business requirements.
The agenda will include key note speakers from Hinkley Point C, Weldability Sif, Heart of the South West LEP, and Doosan. There will also be a tour of the WCoE.
The event takes place on February 4, from 8am to 10am at the Advanced Engineering Centre at the college’s Bridgwater Campus. Breakfast will be included.
