Fairhurst pushes further into the South West with new office opening

Fairhurst, one of the largest privately-owned Consulting Engineering Practices in the UK with an office in Blackbrook Business Park, in Taunton, is expanding and has recently opened a new office at Plymouth Science Park.

Fairhurst is a multi-award-winning business which employs more than 500 highly qualified and experienced engineers and specialist technical staff. The company has built-up an outstanding reputation having provided engineering support and specialist skills on some of the most significant private and public sector building and infrastructure projects seen in the UK.

These have included major highways, ports, rail and London Underground projects together with building developments for residential, recreational, commercial, industrial, health and educational use.

Looking to build on the success of the Taunton office, led by Duncan Clayton, this new venture in Plymouth will primarily target opportunities with clients from Exeter through to Cornwall. The office will also support the Taunton office with its growing workload.

Since opening in September, the Plymouth office has already grown to three permanent staff, alongside a part-time undergraduate engineer attending Plymouth University and a contract draftsman. The office is led by Daniel Kennard, who recently re-joined Fairhurst after a four-year absence elsewhere in the industry.  Daniel brings a broad range of civil and structural engineering experience in most sectors and he has significant contacts across the construction industry in the area.

In the first few weeks of operations this new venture has been received very positively, by both new and existing clients, and further staff recruitment and meaningful growth is currently envisaged for the near future.

The decision to site an office in Plymouth was partly due to the outstanding reputation of the University of Plymouth’s Engineering Department: “We already employ several graduates from the University of Plymouth,” said Daniel. “Basing ourselves here provides an exciting opportunity for upcoming talented individuals in the city.”

The new office brings to 19 the number of offices spread across the UK. With offices in Bristol, Taunton and Plymouth, Fairhurst has well and truly got the South West covered.
