Clive Patch, the Managing Director of MJ Patch Engineering Ltd, will be joined by three friends to take on an epic cycling challenge in aid of:
The group of friends, who all live in the Chew Valley, will be cycling circa 1,000 miles in around 16 days from Bristol to Barcelona in aid of the three charities.
Clive will be joined by Steve Sage, the Managing Director of ACES Mechanical & Electrical Contracting Ltd., Karen Bye a Director of Air Systems – Air Conditioning, Heating and Ventilation and Emma Harvey, a HR Chief Operating Officer for AXA.
The route will follow cycle trails, canals, rivers, and minor roads via Poole, Cherbourg, Brittany, La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Carcassonne and an uphill section through the Southern Pyrenees into Spain and the final destination of Barcelona.
The four friends have never undertaken such an epic cycling challenge before and are currently busy training by cycling both on and off-road and working on their core stability and general fitness.
Clive said: “We know it’s going to be a big challenge but we’re really looking forward to it. The scenery will be incredible and we’ll have a great sense of achievement when we cross the finishing line and reach Barcelona.”
On the down side, the friends are not looking forward to the massive hill climbs through the Pyrenees and the likely hot weather when they set off on 14 September.
Clive added: “We’re hoping to raise a lot of money for the three charities and thought cycling from Bristol to Barcelona was a bit different to a Lands End to John O’Groats challenge.
“We all feel very strongly about the need to raise awareness for mental health and two of the team members have recently lost close family and friends from breast cancer and a brain tumour, so all three charities are extremely important to us.”
The team has already raised over £7,000 but are hoping to raise an incredible £40,000 by the time they complete their charity cycle challenge.
