Engineering apprenticeships supporting sector growth

M-CNC Engineering has identified that apprenticeships are proving to be a continued and critical part of strong growth in the engineering sector.  The Bridgwater-based precision manufacturing company welcomed two new apprentices last September with plans to recruit more later this year.

Their growth in apprentice numbers is aligned with growing staff numbers following increased demand for their CNC machining and engineering services. M-CNC has recently invested over £3 million in buying eight new DMG Mori CNC machines and now has a bar-fed CNC turning capability up to 500mm diameter combined with full simultaneous, 5-axis CNC machining up to 2.6metres.

Mark Wylde, M-CNC’s Managing Director, said: “We are committed to maintaining Somerset’s unrivalled reputation within the engineering sector and supporting growth in the current engineering skills base in the South West. We have successfully run our apprenticeship scheme with Bridgwater and Taunton College for several years and it has proven hugely successful in achieving this aim and supporting our business growth and expansion.

“This is essential following the investment in our Bridgwater site, which now has a capacity of 20,000 sq feet.  Demand is growing for our precision engineering and machining services across multiple sectors including aerospace, defence, oil and gas, and motorsport.  Talking to other engineering firms we know many are also experiencing strong growth which is only good news for Somerset and its engineering sector.”

M-CNC combines cutting-edge technology with industry expertise to deliver a rigorous process of manufacture, assembly & testing. To find out more visit https://www.m-cnc.co.uk/.
