Chamber members join forces to stage new online AI Festival

Chamber members Orbital Media and BT have joined forces to launch a new AI Festival, which is being supported by leading technology companies, including Facebook and Google.

The virtual event takes place online at www.aiglobalfestival.com on February 24 and 25 and is a unique initiative that will explore the implications for business, skills, and employment in relation to what could be the defining technology of the 21st Century.

The ticketed, two-day event brings together a range of sector specialists to share their experiences and forecasts for the future in a series of inspirational keynote talks, workshops, ‘fireside chats’, and technology demonstrations.

This includes former NASA scientist, Peter Scott, who worked for the space agency’s famed Jet Propulsion Laboratory, speaking about the future of AI and technology and Daniela Rus from MIT will provide an overview of AI robotic automation and the opportunities this offers the average business.

The line-up includes many other world leading representatives from organisations such as PwC, Silicon Valley Bank, Alan Turing Institute, MIT, IQ Capital, Innovate UK, Orbital Global, VirtTuri, Wilkin and Sons Tiptree, University of Essex, and University of Suffolk. Together they will cover the role of AI in a variety of industries including agriculture, healthcare, energy, and fast moving consumer goods.

Peter Brady, CEO of Orbital Global and VirtTuri, said: “We are proud to launch AI Festival which will include a range of influential speakers, from a variety of trail-blazing tech companies and organisations. Artificial intelligence is impacting and will impact, every facet of our lives. We believe it is critical that there is broader understanding of its implications and opportunities for business, skills and employment.”

Professor Tim Whitley, MD of Research at BT, added: “The East of England is one of the world’s leading locations for AI innovation. At BT we’re proud to play a leading role in that as the UK’s most prolific filer of AI patents, so we’re delighted to broadcast this inaugural event virtually from Adastral Park, our Martlesham R&D campus.”

The event, co-founded by Orbital Global and BT, is sponsored by a range of businesses and organisations including: Eastern Academic Health Science Network (EAHSN), New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, Suffolk County Council, University of Essex, University of East Anglia, University of Suffolk, and VirtTuri.

Somerset Chamber has secured 100 free tickets to the event – which would usually cost £150 each, discounted to £50 for academics – more information is available by clicking here.
