LEADING South West chartered accountants, tax consultants and financial planning firm Albert Goodman has been training staff to become Dementia Friends to raise awareness of the condition and to ensure they can do all they can to help people with dementia and their families and carers.
Partner Louise Goodman, who is herself a Dementia Friend and an accredited member of SOLLA (Society of Later Life Advisers), hosted interactive workshops for around 100 Albert Goodman staff in Taunton, Yeovil and Burnham-on-Sea.
The training is approved by the Alzheimer’s Society and aims to increase understanding of what it means to have dementia and what businesses and people can do to become more dementia-friendly.
As a SOLLA adviser, Louise is accredited by the not-for-profit society to ensure people are better informed about later life financial issues such as care home fees, equity release and taxation.
Louise said: “Albert Goodman has a lot of older clients and we know how important it is to them to protect their assets for future generations or to plan to meet their own needs should they need care.
“It’s vital we do as much as we can to help people and their families make the right decisions and to make that process as easy as possible for them.
“By training our staff as Dementia Friends we’re ensuring our offices are as welcoming as possible for anyone who does have dementia and it gives their families peace of mind, too, when they need to come and see us.”
Albert Goodman has offices across the region, including Taunton, Chard, Yeovil, Bridgwater, Weston-super-Mare and Weymouth, and prides itself in providing high quality accountancy, tax and financial planning advice to private individuals and small to medium-sized enterprises, offering a comprehensive service to local and national clients.
