After walking miles of uneven and testing grounds, a group of young professionals in Somerset are proud to announce they have raised £1,000 for local charity, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance.
On Saturday 19th May 2018, a team of 13 professionals from a range of businesses across Somerset trekked over 21 miles, clocking up over 45,500 steps each from Sheppy’s Cider Farm in Bradford on Tone across varied and challenging terrain, to Perry’s Cider Mills in Ilminster. Organised and led by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce, the team visited five local businesses across Somerset, walking for over 10 hours, with a couple of county-inspired pit stops to refuel along the way, all in aid of the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance charity.
Tracy Bartram, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance Communications Manager, comments, “We are so grateful to everyone who was involved with the Somerset Cider Stomp raising funds for our life-saving service. It is thanks to events like this that we are able to continue providing our service. With no direct Government or National Lottery funding, we need to raise over £2.5 million every year and it is groups like this one that make us able to do this.”
Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance provides relief from sickness and injury for the people of Dorset and Somerset, by the provision of an air ambulance. Each year, the operational costs are more than £2.5 million, with each mission costing approximately £3,000. Since its launch in March 2000, the charity has launched more than 12,000 missions.
One of the participants, Ellie Bulmer from Stokes Partners, adds, “It was a fantastic way to raise money for a worthy cause. I thoroughly enjoyed our stomp, and not only because of the cider stops along the way! The sun was relentless, but the company, camaraderie, cake and conversation kept us all going throughout the day. I am so pleased to see we raised such a substantial sum for Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and that it was all worthwhile.”
A well-earned meal and presentation of novelty awards concluded the evening, to celebrate the hard work, determination and impressive sums raised by the group.
