Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset addressed 50 business women from across the county at a Somerset Chamber networking event held on International Women’s Day (8 March 2018).
Speaking at Somerset Chamber’s first Ladies Afternoon Tea event of the year, Mrs Anne Maw gave an insightful talk on the work she carries out on behalf of the Queen. This requires attendance at formal ceremonies and presentations, visiting and celebrating achievement and excellence, to demonstrate the approval and congratulations of Her Majesty.
Since her appointment as Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset in March 2016, a voluntary but full-time role, she said her life has been very busy but incredibly rewarding. She talked about the importance of equality and the empowerment of women. She also expressed her devotion for her husband and strong family unit, highlighting how these relationships have enriched her life.
The event was held at the picturesque Crowcombe Court in the Quantock Hills, attracting women from a wide range of businesses and industries. Following the event, guests were treated to a tour of the beautiful 17th Century house.
Anne Maw commented, “I am honoured to have been asked to speak at the event held on International Women’s Day. It has been really interesting getting to know so many professional and inspiring individuals. Us women are a huge powerhouse when we get together.”
Somerset Chamber’s Ladies Afternoon Tea events are held twice a year and are always a popular occasion, providing interesting speakers and an opportunity for business women to network in a friendly and professional environment.
Caroline Drew, Branch Manager at Meridian Business Support, which sponsored the event, commented, “Meridian Business Support is honoured to support this event on International Women’s Day. It is truly admirable to see the solidarity of women in business coming together here today. The event was fantastic. I very much enjoyed Anne’s informative speech and networking with other ladies held at this beautiful location.”
